PARTNERS IN GLOBAL ALLIANCE : CIVIL SOCIETY

The voice of civil society is perhaps the loudest in the fight against bonded labour in south Asia. Non-governmental organisations, community-based organisations, human and labour rights groups, academic institutions and trade unions have all been vocal and active both in bringing information on the plight of bonded labourers into the public domain and in taking action to assist them - be this in terms of advocating for policy change or in initiating action at grass-roots level. In some countries, active coalitions of civil society organisations against bonded labour have been established, allowing for information-sharing and better coordination between the many partners involved.

Civil society organisations internationally play an important role in supporting efforts at the national level, by researching and bringing these issues to the attention of a global audience, facilitating lesson-learning and information-sharing across countries and regions and seeking to influence global policy agendas in favour of groups who are subjected to forced and bonded labour, and broader discrimination.
